Hugh Miller has designed two new pieces in the latest collection of Benchmark Furniture. The pieces, a coffee table and side table, are a subtle blend of Hugh’s Western design training and his research in Japan. The pieces were launched by Benchmark at Decorex International, London, in September 2017.
The pieces are made in elm, a beautifully warm timber with routes in the traditions of British furniture making. A combination of carefully articulated details mark the pieces as something out of the ordinary. The finely tapered edges make the table tops appear to float; brass pins add richness and contrast; and a textured underbelly, hand-carved into each piece, evokes surprise and delight in the observant viewer.
